Ponui Watch

Ponui Senior 1992 Welcome to Ponui Island!

Ponui is an island just off Auckland. Two thirds of the island is owned by the Chamberlin family. Peter and his son David run the bottom third and it's here that the Inter School Christian Fellowship runs two camps each year. Ponui Junior is for Forms 2-4, while Ponui Senior is for Forms 5-7.

Each camp runs for about 8 days and includes sailing, swimming, canoeing, waterslides, tramping, overnight hikes, widegames and with upto 70 campers and a bunch of leaders, that makes for an EXCELLENT camp.

The camp also has a strong Christian influence, with regular studies each day, aimed at being relevant to the youth of the camp.

I've been 8 times to Ponui Senior, 3 times as a camper (`88 - `90), 4 times as a leader (`91 - `93 ,95). Each year the campers are broken up into tent groups with a leader. I don't have many pics of my early days as a camper as I didn't have a camera. But here's a pic of the Sloths. All the 7th Former guys were in one huge old army tent. We walked the plank (typical punishment) so many times that year that the plank was never seen again.

I do have a few pics of my days as a leader, some provided by me, some by some friends who would like to remind me of certain events.

For my first page of Ponui Senior Highlights, here's some pics of Rich. He's been a camper in my tent twice (poor guy) and is far too photogenic, or maybe he just gets in the way a lot!
